Biographical Information
Marshall Edwards is proud to claim North Carolina as his boyhood home. He is a graduate of Newton County High School in Covington, GA; Baylor University in Waco, TX; and Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. During 43 years of pastoral ministry, Marshall served churches in Texas and the Carolinas, beginning with the Mountain Baptist Church in Gatesville, TX--on the second Sunday he and Doris were married!
Every place he has gone, God has blessed with phenomenal growth, expansion and mutually enriching experiences. After his days at the seminary, Marshall became pastor of Windsor Park Baptist in Austin, TX, where he was also Chaplain of the Reagan High School football team, winner of three state championships!
At Columbus Avenue Baptist in Waco, the college ministry grew to be the largest in the nation. He established the "Wholeness of Life" series, a Luncheon/Bible Study for the business and professional community that met weekly in the Waco Convention Center. In Texas Marshall served on the Baylor University Development Board and on the Board of Trustees. He also served as Chair of Trustees at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX.
While pastor of the historic First Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, Marshall again led the "Wholeness of Life" Luncheon/Bible Study, this time in a hotel across the street from the State House, where thousands came each week from all denominations and all walks of life.
While Dr. Edwards has preached all over the world, three of his favorite years came when First Baptist in Blowing Rock, NC, persuaded him to come out of retirement to be their pastor soon after the Edwards's’ move to the Blue Ridge Mountains. In 2005 the church bestowed upon him the honor of being Pastor Emeritus.
Marshall and Doris have a son, Scott, an attorney in Dallas, a daughter, Cindy, who is a Reading Specialist/Special Education teacher in Lorena, TX, and five grandchildren.
Dr. Edwards is grateful to friends Richard Chastain and Lee Ryan for their gracious contribution of time and expertise making possible the compilation of sermons preached while pastor of First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock, NC (2001-2004). |
